Conrad Creek

Conrad Creek is named after T.A. Conrad. A long time local resident, famous for his bear stories while he worked as a machinist for salmon canneries on Kodiak Island, Alaska. This creek is a tributary of the Sol Duc River 24 miles upstream from the Pacific Coast. At the head waters of this creek is a wetland several acres in size. Coho Salmon spawn in the creek and try to move into the wetland to over winter. A 36 inch culvert blocked this movement until the water got high enough, because of its small size it was often blocked by beaver damming the upstream side. The Pacific Coast Salmon Coalition sponsored this project to replace this culvert with a 15 foot arch. A grant to fund the project was acquired through; NOAA Community - Based Restoration Program and People for Salmon Partnership for Salmon Habitat Restoration in Washington Project. The Washington State Department of Natural Resources is the landowner providing technical support and materials.
