Bear Creek Bank Stabilization

The Bear Creek Bank Stabilization project would be to design, engineer and implement a project consisting of three sites along Bear Creek. The intent would be to cable in logs and root wads along two sites, approximately 600 feet each, to divert the channel away from the bank. The bank is being eroded at a high rate and is putting excessive amounts of sediment into the steam.

The logs would not only divert the channel it would also reduce sediment input, provide cover for juveniles and increase available spawning gravel. The sites would also be planted with indigenous plants to provide cover and bank stabilization. The funds would be used to rent an excavator, engineering, trees for planting and transport of stumps and logs to the sites. Volunteers will plant, run equipment and donate whole trees and DOE has some stumps that they will contribute.
